The model of these armchairs would have been executed for a costume ball given at the Tuileries palace on February 11th 1812, when Queen Hortense was leading a« Quadrille des Incas ». In this ballet inspired by the eponymous novel by Marmontel, the queen was dressed as the sun high priestress wearing a « diadème de plumes de cacatoès, devant chacune desquelles une gerbe de diamants lançait ses feux ».

A similar pair of armchairs dating from the first quarter of 19th century was in the Rothschild collections, then in the Yves Saint Laurent et Pierre Bergé's collection rue de Babylone (sold 241 000 €, second sale of Collection Yves Saint Laurent et Pierre Bergé, Christie's, Paris, November 17-20th 2009, lot 1034).

An armchair of the same model figured in the interior designer Henri Samuel's apartment rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré (illustrated in A. Bony, Meubles et décors des années 70, Paris, 2005, p. 150).

More recently, two pairs of stoll of the same design were sold on the auction sale of the Pierre Berger collection in Sotheby’s in the October 2018, under the lots 468 and 468A for 87 000 € one and 137 000 € the other.
